Mealworm castings, or frass, are one of the purest fertilizers out there. Our mealies are fed a diet of grains and vegetables and the nutrition they consume comes through in their leavings. Your plants will be able to readily utilize these nutrients.

 

Unique to natural fertilizers, mealworm frass contains the only source of chitin that is readily available to plants. This nutrient encourages plants' immune systems to fight off pests and disease from the inside out.

 

We hand sort our frass so you get just the poo and not the mealworms' bedding. It does have an odor kind of like dust; we think it is preferable to chemical smells. It is dry and has a texture similar to very fine sand.

Applications

Water Additive (Frass Tea): Per gallon of water add 1 cup of frass. Mix well and let sit 10-15 minutes. Water immediately, do not store at room temperature. Can be refrigerated for up to a week. Use this mixture to water every 2 weeks.

Potting: Mix 1 cup of frass per cubic foot of soil.

Gardens: Mix one pound of frass into 20 square feet of garden space. Works for raised and in-ground gardens, as well as vegetable gardens.

Widespread Use: Use a fertilizer spreader to sprinkle frass onto lawn and then water.

After Planting (Established Plants): Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons around plant/within a tree's dripline and water. Repeat every 3-4 weeks throughout the growing season.
